Showcasing Filipino Culture Through Film

Growing up, I dreamed of being an actress—but rarely saw people who looked or sounded like me in American films and shows. That’s why being part of the award-winning feature film “My Partner The Movie” was life-changing. I contributed as an actress, singer, and songwriter, while helping share the stories of Filipino immigrants in Hawai‘i on a global stage.

As a first-generation immigrant, I’ve seen my father’s sacrifices firsthand, and I wanted this role to honor the resilience and heart that define so many Filipino families. My biggest wish was to honor them and their hard work, something I feel like goes unnoticed way too often. And thankfully, I had the opportunity to do so. This film has received prestigious awards and recognition worldwide, which proves that our voices and narratives have a place in international conversations.

I also played the lead role of Isa in the short film “Kunyari,” which explored Filipino culture through themes like gossip culture and societal expectations. From costumes to set design, the film celebrated the richness of our traditions and highlighted the collaborative talent of young Filipinos at the University of Hawai‘i.

Since then, I’ve truly enjoyed the film industry and supporting Filipino representation in mass media. I participated in other large projects such as “Pasko from Hawai’i”, where we showcased how Filipinos in Hawai’i celebrate Christmas. I will always and forever be grateful for opportunities to showcase our culture and the stories that shape our heritage to what it is today.

For me, acting isn’t just performance—it’s a way to represent, uplift, and celebrate who we are.
